Spring 2008 North American Migratory Count Information
The Oregon version of the North American Migration Count will occur on the weekend of May 10 & 11, 2008. Volunteers around the state will organize by counties and attempt to survey migrant and resident birds in those counties. This is a one day event. It will either occur on Saturday, May 10th or Sunday, May 11th depending on which county (to be determined by the coordinators listed below). If you would like to get involved in this annual event, please contact the coordinator for the county of your choice. If you have questions about the NAMC, please contact the state coordinator, Chuck Gates.
Nearly all of the historic NAMC data have been gathered. Volunteers from the East Cascades Bird Conservancy have been working on collating these data during the winter of 2007-2008. A thorough analysis of the data will follow. If you have avoided being involved with this project in the past because you felt the data were going nowhere, please reconsider. This is a valuable effort and your contribution will be worth the time you spend.
Please notice that there are several counties for which the coordinator position is open. If you happen to visit one of these counties on NAMC weekend, please send your observations to Chuck Gates for compilation. Please also contact Chuck if you would like to serve as coordinator for one of the open counties.
